July and August have been very busy for Gravesend Rowing Club, with competitors at Kingston, Sudbury and Danson Dashes regattas, and our summer training camp at Peterborough.
Kingston saw some close racing, with our men’s eight making it through the first round of sprints at what was, for many, their first race, but unfortunately no wins.
Our crews had better luck at Sudbury, where the men’s novice four, ladies four, and men’s double all took away pots for winning their categories – in the ladies’ case, following a dead heat and re-row against Lea RC to decide the day’s winCners.
At Danson Dashes, the race we organise with Erith RC, we made 40 entries and left with 8 winning crews: the mixed 8s, mixed double, women’s four, women’s J18 four, women’s J14 quad, men’s band 1 and band 2 singles, and men’s band 1 double. In the case of our mixed 8, this meant walking away with the much sought-after Danson Dashes sprint 8s hip flasks to commemorate their victory!
Following Danson, we spent a week at Peterborough with some of our senior squads preparing for headrace season, with almost 500km rowed over the course of the week. As we head into the winter season, we look forward to even more Gravesend wins – and if you want to be part of our winning team, you’ll be pleased to know our next Learn to Row course is in planning! Congratulations to our Danson Dashes winners (if you have photos of any more of our winners, please do get in touch so we can add them!)
