Following the latest changes in coronavirus restrictions, please find below details of the Rowing Club’s reopening from Wednesday 2nd December.

Firstly, thank you to everyone for your patience through the various changes that we have had to make over the past 9 months, and for following the new rules we have had to put in place. The coaches and committee really do appreciate your support.

All Rowers: Kent has been placed in Tier 3 as of the 2 December. This means that the bar and kitchen will remain closed and the changing rooms and showers are only to be used in an emergency (i.e. after a capsize or injury). We will therefore be operating a ‘Row and Go’ system, whereby rowers are asked to arrive ready to row, and only use the changing rooms as a bag drop area. The one way system, use of hand sanitizers before and after sessions, and wiping down of all equipment after use will remain in place. Anyone with any symptoms, or who has been told to self isolate, should stay away from the Rowing Club, and alert us as soon as possible of any positive Covid test.

Juniors: Both indoor and outdoor rowing for juniors can still go ahead, and the first sessions will be on Wednesday 2nd December. However, we need to keep the number of adult coaches at the club at any one time to a minimum and therefore have decided to make some changes to weekend sessions. Junior sessions will be as follows:

 SaturdayWednesdayThursday
Year 910.30am to 12noon5pm to 6.30pm
Year 1010.30am to 12noon5pm to 6.30pm
Year 119am to 10.30am6.30pm to 8pm
Year 129am to 10.30am 5pm to 6.30pm

On Saturdays we will still be rowing on the river as much as possible, so please bring a change of clothes and shoes you don’t mind getting wet. As we head into winter, please also wear clothes appropriate to the weather (not shorts and t-shirts with nothing warmer to go on top!).

Adults: For Year 13s and adults, there are more restrictions on activity. The first training session for adults will be Thursday 3rd  December. For all sessions, you will need to sign into a register book.

Indoor training is not allowed for adults under the new rules. This means that during the Tuesday and Thursday training sessions, activities will be outside and in set groups of 6. You will not be allowed to use the clubhouse for training, but only as a bag drop and to collect any equipment for outside training. Please bring clothes appropriate to doing exercise outside in the cold and the rain (layers, waterproofs etc.). We can send details of each session via WhatsApp to anyone who is self isolating or does not want to join group training sessions, so you can complete these at home instead. Given we will not be able to run full sessions outside over winter, Tuesday and Thursday sessions will now both run from 6.30pm to 7.30pm.

Rowing is allowed however the clubhouse should again only be used to drop off belongings and to get equipment. Outdoor rowing will take place on Sundays from 8am to 10am for invited crews only (these will be confirmed in advance), and from 10am to 12noon for all rowers. If the weather is too poor for rowing, we will be restricted to outdoor training in groups of 6 or fewer, so please bring kit appropriate for both activities, remembering that the changing rooms will be closed.

Ergo Loans: If you borrowed an ergo from the Rowing Club while it was shut, please return these during a session between Wednesday 2nd December and Sunday 6 December. If you cannot return it during this time for any reason, please get in touch directly.

Private Boat Owners: From Wednesday 2nd December, you can access the boathouse at any time (in line with usual rules) to take your own boat out, however should not be using the changing rooms and showers etc., nor should you do any training inside (gym or ergos). Please can we ask rowers to go back to logging outings in/out on the whiteboard in the boathouse, and the logbook in the club room.

Christmas: This year we will not be holding our annual Presentation Dinner, due to continuing restrictions. We hope to be able to hold an event in some form in the New Year, and will update you soon. Over Christmas and the New Year, the Club will be closed on the following days: Thursday 24 December; Friday 25 December; Saturday 26 December; Thursday 31 December, and Friday 1 December

And finally…We have signed up to Amazon Smile, a process by which Amazon will donate a small percentage of the total amount spent by our supporters every quarter. If you regularly use Amazon, this would be a great way to support the Club, at no cost to you. To sign up, go to https://smile.amazon.co.uk/ch/1167701-0

Thanks again for your continued support.
